Down South of North Korea, the K-Pop maniac and spicy Kimchi cuizine are perhaps the hottest wave sweeping the globe. Their cars and their Samsungs are as sleeky and sexy as their Korean drama guys and gurls who all look like Gucci or Revlon perfect faces! The hangook-eul sarang-heh, South Korea fever is going to infect more global fellows when their singer sensation Jung Ji-Hoon a.k.a. RAIN takes off where he left after entering military service.
Up North of the 38th parallel, lies N.Korean a.k.a. fortress Uncle Kim. Not much real facts of what's happening there is known beyond their borders except what their official organ shows the world in their display of military might at national stage celebrations. Or when they want to flex their muscle by playing with fireworks, i.e. shooting a rocket or two to intimidate their enemies of the state from their southern neighbour to Nippon and all the way to the US of A! And to let the world know Uncle Kim has the power, they will go on their endless jingoism trying to intimidate their neighbours and Uncle Sam.
If one is to believe the UN and Human Rights Groups including NKorean defectors' stories of the dark side of Uncle Kim's regime, the report card is often an atrocious one! Unless one believes all those pristine uniformed military fellows and smiling children portray that Uncle Kim's North Korean is the new Shangri-la no?
So what do we make of a supposedly renowned local breed university in Bolehland conferring an honorary degree to the great leader Uncle Kim recently? See news report below.
It would seem HELP's founder is a better clairvoyant of a pretty Shangri-la in the making by Uncle Kim. We know conferring an honorary degree is often for great deeds than about to do great deed right?
One isn't sure how the Dr...the non medical version of a 'Doctor' Chan is so North Korean sure that the degree will speed as Dr Chan believe by conferring a Dr Kim would help them, the North Koreans that is, "integrate faster into the global network of open societies." It is sounds confusing it is. But then Professors and PhD fellows think a red F report card of North Korea warrants an honorary PhD. So we wonder if HELP's students PhDs, Masters and 1st class students do need to score 'Fs' to be conferred such prestigious Degrees eh?
Countries with more sophisticated intelligence gathering apparatus think the future of North Korea under this latest Kim dynastic leader is a repeat of the past and present state of affairs. Which is a Shagging-really of their own people, especially those who oppose the regime and advocate for what the state labels 'hostile, capitalist, enemies concepts called human rights, justice, rule of law and what have you..."
Let's hope our HELP founder lives long enough to see that the Doctorate will really lead to the 'reclusive nation's progression' to the society HELP teaches its students in its university. But looking at the state of affairs under great grandfather, father and now present son Kim's leadership, North Korea is still where it was, and is, i.e believing it is a Shangrila than what the world, other than HELP thinks it is we can supposed.
What is it that leaders who are associated or tainted with alleged or real murder like executing ex lovers, seems to get all praise and recognition? Perhaps HELP may confer its next Honorary PhD to homegrown domestic leader for similar stain marks huh of the great Uncle Kim eh?
No wonder many of us think a PhD is Permanent Head Damage. Not in this HELP's case of the one receiving it though it does fit the honour, but rather the fellow conferring the Hononary Doctorate has a Positive Headstrong Determination that it will chance Uncle Kim's head to turn his Shangri-la into a real fairy land where millions want to rush to invest and live there we can supposed too.
So does Doctor Chan deserves praise or brickbats? Hmmm tough one since many of us, including yours truly, aren't intellectually competent enough or hold a PhD acquired or conferred, to be intellectual fortune tellers or know more that what we know inside fortress Kim -- to strongly believe our now Dr Kim will help cure the ills and woes that many think is the state of affairs in that country.
Yes indeed education does open one's mind to many possibilities and imagination. So does one inflicted by Permanent Head Damage disease too, aniyo?
After this brave stance by HELP, the Taliban leaders, fascists and dictators must really feel proud they are potential Doctorate material by HELP. Gosh with such positiveness HELP doesn't need any help from anyone to tell them who they recognise as great leaders, ye?
So did HELP created a K-Blooper on this PhD thingy? But then as one says, "It's my own business and not your grandfather's.. so I can do what I right!". In which case, the same goes for HELP's founder's action too right? Who are we to tick off the Professor for recognising the potential goodness and saviour in Uncle Kim than say leaders of right or left wing NGOs in BolehLand eh?
Wonder what their students and alumni think about it or are they all as intellectually smart and aligned to their founder and hail him as a great leader too... like what the citizens in fortress Uncle Kim also with robotic like Pavlovian behaviour, will all scream and salute "Hail the great leader!" when his name is mentioned or when they see even his shadow, or hear his name or see his photo!"
With such a great honorary honour HELP has bestowed on Uncle Kim, we can supposed its leaders have been Kim-chied?

PETALING JAYA: HELP University Malaysia has awarded an honorary doctorate in Economics to North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-Un.
News of the conferment turned viral after a blog entry on Tuesday by ForeignPolicy.com detailing the award, started circulating on social media.
The blog quoted a Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) article that reported on a ceremony conveying the certificate.
The simple ceremony was held on Oct 3 in the DPR Korean (North Korean) embassy in Kuala Lumpur and was attended by 35 invitees including the HELP University president Datuk Dr Paul Chan and the North Korean ambassador to Malaysia, who received the honour on Kim's behalf.
It was also mentioned that Kim Jong Un was the first foreign head of state to receive the honorary degree from the university.
In a press statement released by HELP University, Dr Chan confirmed the awarding of the degree and expressed his hope that education could be used as a bridge to reach out to the people of North Korea.
"We should use education to help the people of DPR Korea have a better life and a higher standard of living. Above all, let's help them integrate faster into the global network of open societies," said Dr Chan.
"I hope that using this 'soft constructive' approach we can help them and North Asia and the world to be a better place for mankind," he added.
In the letter, Chan shared his vision for North Korea's future and how education was an important tool for the reclusive nation's progression.
"I anticipate that it is a matter of time, within the next six years or so, that DPR Korea will engage the world in many constructive ways. I feel no one at this moment has the courage to do this though their hearts tell them to do so," he said.
Dr Chan also stressed the importance of accessible education in paving the way for a better quality of life for the people of North Korea.
"To help DPR Korea in the way we do it is a road untravelled, but we hope our first small crucial step will contribute to peace and prosperity for all."
HELP University, founded in 1986, offers pre-university and degree certifications and is known locally for its business studies and psychology programmes.
Malaysia is one of the few countries in the world who have good ties with North Korea and whose citizens are not required to have visas for entry into the nation.
